Where was this photo taken?
Drop a photo and we'll read the hidden GPS coordinates and show the exact spot on the map — if the photo still contains them. Free, instant, nothing uploaded.
How the photo location finder works
Phones and many cameras save the GPS position into each photo as EXIF metadata. This tool reads that data directly in your browser and opens the coordinates on Google Maps or OpenStreetMap.
Which photos still have location data?
- Usually yes: original photos straight from a phone or camera, files sent by email, AirDrop, Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud links, or messengers in “send as file” mode.
- Usually no: photos saved from Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, X/Twitter, TikTok and screenshots.
Worried about your own photos? Remove the location and other metadata before sharing.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't my photo show a location?
The location was either never recorded (location access for the camera was off) or removed. Photos downloaded from Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, X and most messengers have their location stripped. Use the original file from the phone or camera.
How accurate is photo GPS?
Usually within 5–20 meters outdoors on a modern phone. Indoors or in dense cities it can be off by 50 meters or more.
Can I find where a photo was taken without GPS data?
Not from the file itself. Without metadata you need visual clues — landmarks, signs, reverse image search (Google Lens, Bing Visual Search).
Is it legal to check a photo's location?
Reading metadata from a file you received is generally legal. Don't use location information to stalk, harass or harm anyone.
