What can a photo reveal about you?

How to remove metadata from a photo

  1. Drop one or more photos above (JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC from iPhone).
  2. See what each photo reveals — anything that gives away your location is flagged in red.
  3. Click Download clean photo. The new file looks identical but has no location, device or date data.

When should you clean a photo?

Before posting on marketplaces (eBay, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace), dating apps, forums and blogs, before sending photos of your home or kids to people you don't know well, and before sharing original files via email, cloud links or messengers that send “as file”.

Frequently asked questions

Does removing metadata reduce photo quality?
No. MetaScrub removes the metadata blocks from the file without re-compressing the image, so the pixels stay exactly the same. Rotated photos keep their correct orientation.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens inside your browser on your own device. You can even turn off your internet after the page loads and it still works.
Do Instagram, WhatsApp or Facebook remove location from photos?
Most big social networks and messengers strip location data when they compress your photo. But sending the original file — by email, AirDrop, Telegram “as file”, Google Drive, Dropbox, marketplaces or dating apps that keep originals — usually keeps the exact GPS coordinates.
How do I stop my iPhone from saving location in photos?
Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Camera → Never. When sharing, tap “Options” at the top of the share sheet and turn off “Location”.
How do I stop my Android phone from saving location?
Open the Camera app → Settings and turn off “Location tags” / “Save location”. The exact wording depends on the phone brand.
What is EXIF data?
EXIF is information your camera or phone writes into every photo: device make and model, date and time, camera settings and often the GPS position where the photo was taken. Some cameras also store their serial number and the owner's name.
